Acing a School Renovation: Finding Compatible Materials Against Water Intrusion
Working with unfamiliar products can make any contractor feel uneasy. But when general contractor Bartlett Cocke discovered the material they planned on using couldn’t make the grade, they turned to their Georgia-Pacific field sales manager to help them find a product compatible with DensElement® Barrier System.
The solution was the new DensDefy™ Liquid Barrier, which completed the water-resistive barrier on a 1950s elementary school. Their Georgia-Pacific rep was on call and on-site to collaborate and get the crew comfortable with installation techniques. Working as one system, DensElement Barrier System and DensDefy Liquid Barrier received top marks from everyone on the project.

DensDefy™ Liquid Barrier
- Provides a highly durable, monolithic, elastomeric water-resistive barrier
- May be applied in temperatures as low as 25°F and cures in temperatures as low as 32°F
- Vapor permeable, allowing damp surfaces to dry
- Fast cure allows for next steps of construction in a shorter amount of time
DensDefy™ Liquid Flashing
- Seals and protects wall rough openings, penetrations, sheathing fasteners and seams
- Eliminates the need for joint reinforcing tape, reducing installation time
- Bonds and cures in adverse weather conditions
- May be applied to damp surfaces
- Can be fully exposed to UV and normal weather conditions for up to 12 months
DensDefy® Transition Membrane
- Impermeable, self-adhered sheet for connecting dissimilar materials
- Helps maintain air and moisture barrier continuity
- Bonds to most surfaces, such as glass mat gypsum sheathing, poured concrete, masonry, steel and wood-based substrates
- Ideal for drift or control joints, vertical expansion joints, gaps up to 1" and transitions between dissimilar materials
- Primerless application allows for faster installation time
- May be exposed to normal weather conditions for up to 12 months
